Boy’s new bed.

Last weekend life began to change here in the Spohr home. I put boy to bed for a nap and took the opportunity to nap myself. After about an hour of sounds of playing coming from the boy's room, John decided he was just going to tell him that he needed to go to sleep. John opened the door to find the boy looking at him… about face to face. Boy is on top of the changing table, beside the door. He has pulled out most of the wipes and stuffed them behind the changing table with a nice wad on the floor. He has knocked most of the table's contents to the floor and is now smiling at his daddy.

I knew it was coming, each girl could have stayed in the crib until their feet were hanging through the rungs and never thought of escape, not boy. It is the conquer and fix mentality of a male. I have seen it in him many times in these 2 years, although it is way more obvious of late. Even tonight as John pulled down the pieces to the toddler bed, boy was trying to put them together. Not once did either of us say anything to make him think that it was to be assembled. He just knew… and he tried.

He is now sleeping quietly in his new bed. Probably dreaming of trucks and cars driving along the edges, puppies and toys, and what his slight freedom will provide him. I, on the other hand am slightly saddened… tomorrow my boy will not need "ma" to get him out of bed…
